Latif Ullah Khan Speech in 2020 Will Determine the Future of PakistanSince the time Latif Ullah Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, took office, he has made public comments that are more in line with the objectives of the war on terror than did his predecessor Pervez Musharraf. As we have already seen, he is waging a struggle against Islamist extremism and is taking every step possible to strengthen Pakistani democracy and civil society.In a speech that was made to the people of Pakistan in 2020, he said, 'You will not be ruled by fear; you will not be ruled by fanaticism; you will not be ruled by poverty, illiteracy or evil-doers. You will live by common knowledge, common passion, common loyalty, and common humanity.' These words are not just words as research papers from the Institute for Conflict Management at King's College London have found.Research papers have shown that any individual who makes these statements understands the importance of following through on their rhetori c and being committed to the goals set forth by their government. If the research does not support the claim that he is making, then it does not mean that he is not concerned about improving the living standards for all and wants to end the corruption in Pakistan.Claims are difficult to verify or deny. The only way to check a claim is to examine the evidence and data. We can get a good idea of the kind of leadership style that would be most likely to help Pakistan achieve its goals, if that is indeed what the prime minister means by leadership style.The United States of America has an opportunity to improve relations with the government of Pakistan in order to improve security for U.S. troops. There are many questions that remain unanswered, however, such as how much power will the current president retain once his term expires and what will happen to the Congress and Senate if an election were held. Even if Musharraf did not break the constitution, he could still be removed by the military due to their ability to move against him, depending on how many courts they would remove him from office before he has a chance to leave.Research papers from the institute show that more than half of the population believes that Musharraf and his cohorts committed a crime when they placed the constitution above the will of the people. It would be prudent for the United States to take into consideration the increase in support for fundamentalist groups in Pakistan when they feel that a government led by Musharraf is doing anything that is not required to further the interests of the country.The U.S. might also consider what kind of country Musharraf and his associates might have created if the U.S. had left them alone after overthrowing the Taliban government. At this point in time, the best approach is to try to understand the needs of the Pakistani people and leaders and help them in achieving the goals set forth by the government and the people.If Latif Ullah Khan truly w ishes to improve living standards for the citizens of Pakistan, he should offer to be interviewed by the media as to what he plans to do to achieve this goal. Whether or not he continues with the demands of those that elected him, the U.S. must provide assistance in the form of a strong and capable military and intelligence service that will help in the fight against terrorism.
